Red and Sarah’s Grand Adventure

redCompetitor Sarah Handley with her horse Smokin Red Dene (out of Redgates Fancy Lady and by Jays Smokin Story) made their AQHA debut in 2013.  At the AQHA UK Spring Show, Sarah was convinced by a great many people to take Red into a Halter class, the first one she’d ever entered.  After the first class, Sarah became hooked on halter!  Winning reserve grand champion later in the summer, at the Fenland show in August Red and Sarah took home two Grand Championships in Halter.   Sarah is a pretty quiet lady, and she wasn’t going to tell many people about their win, so we’ve decided to tell you how well she did!

In the June show, Red and Sarah helped their team (team 2) to victory in the Team Competition winning an awesome custom made Saddle Stand, then at the August show, they went grand.  Red follows in the footsteps of other Jays Smokin Story offspring who prove to be exceptionally quiet and sensible, by competing in the raucous Blue Pleasure class at the WES Championships with Helena Ryan, who sat on Red for the first time at the show.

Interestingly, David worked with Sarah and Red at the WES Welsh Camp in June, and Sarah tells us that when David was teaching Red to stand and showing her some tips, Red calmly picked up his foot and placed it on the end of David’s toe, which made David laugh, as he says Red’s sire, Jays Smokin Story does exactly the same thing!  Like father like son, especially with the Grand Championships!
